How a Parlei gets built.
A Parlei is only as good as what you give it, so most of the work is giving it something. Setting it up takes a few minutes. Here is the whole process, including the parts that happen after.
Tell it what you do
Paste what you already keep somewhere — a site, a deck, a long chat with ChatGPT or Claude — or give it the address of a page about your work and it reads that. It comes back with what it understood: what you do, what you offer, what you are looking for.
Correct it
Read what it got and change anything that is wrong before you go on. What it parsed is a starting point, not a verdict — every field is yours to edit.
Tune the voice
Decide how it speaks about you: warm or brisk, detailed or short. It always talks about you in the third person — it speaks for you, never as you.
Decide how much it shares
Set how open it is to begin with. Every piece you give it later carries its own setting on top of that, from everyone down to you alone, and a reading drawn from something private stays private.
Start your first month
Setup ends with payment — $9 for the first month. Your Parlei exists from that moment. It is not public yet.
Give it your work
This is the part that matters, and it does not end. On What Parlei knows you paste text, upload files, add links to public pages, and connect Google Drive folders and GitHub repositories. Every piece keeps where it came from, when, and who is allowed to hear it. Its rules start cautious: the things that commit you — a quote, an introduction, writing to someone first — are set to ask you, or to never, until you say otherwise.
It opens when it has enough
Going live is not a button. Your Parlei stays closed to the public until it has enough to be useful to a stranger, and until then it tells you exactly what is missing and where to add it. A Parlei that can only say it does not carry that is worse for everyone than one that is not open yet.
When it doesn’t know, it says so.
Your Parlei only speaks from what you have given it. When a question falls outside your material it does not guess, and it does not make the gap the subject of the answer: it gives the nearest thing it does have, says once that it does not carry the rest, and takes the question to you.
Every one of those is a note about what your audience wants that your work has not covered yet.
And what you get
Most conversations end with the visitor served — an answer found, a link handed over, nobody’s calendar involved. When one is worth your attention, your Parlei leaves you a short note: who came, what they were after, and what it gave them.
Everything it says and does is written down, with what it relied on and why, and you can read it or simply ask about it. A quiet heads-up, not a control room.
